Just Justice
About us
Just Justice is an initiative by three Teach for India, 2019 cohort fellows. The organization was formed in 2020 when the fellows realized their vision and necessity for uplifting the vulnerable communities and started working towards this commitment.
The project aims to impart legal literacy to low-income family children to increase awareness regarding their rights and duties through a comprehensive well-developed & need-based curriculum.
The curriculum also focuses on strategies & action steps one could take up, in case their rights are violated.
Arising out of the on-ground experiences of these fellows in the under-resourced communities that they got the opportunity to work in, as part of their fellowship journey.
Touched by the lives of many young students and inspired by the joie de vivre of their families, Aastha, Anushka, and Bishal sought to address one of the most potent problems faced by the community members: the lack of familiarity with legalities involved in even the simplest endeavours in their life.
We not only explore various dimensions of the law of the land with our students but also train them to acquire the required knowledge, skills, and mindsets to be able to become champions of a legal literacy movement within and beyond their communities.
Thus, the idea of Just Justice took shape as an effort to foster citizen engagement and community involvement with law and policy by educating students and honing them to don the role of community leaders.
What is our mission?
We believe students are the building blocks of society. Hence, we aim to equip them with the necessary legal education through a well-developed curriculum that would enable them to navigate through their lives, and further disseminate their learnings into the communities in which they reside & eventually the society as a whole.
Thereby, we aim to create a system in which no one is victimized or becomes a perpetrator due to ignorance of the law, as well as lack of access to legal education.
Our mission is to mobilize and inspire a wider movement of community leaders that will generate a similar transformation for all children and under-resourced communities in the country.
What do we do?
We have developed a comprehensive curriculum with lawyers, legal professionals, and experts.
We have further broken down this curriculum into comprehensible content which is delivered through a set of modules by legal experts who are part of our facilitation team.
All our modules are designed keeping in mind the knowledge, skills, and mindsets which we aim to develop in our beneficiaries.
To further increase the engagement level of the content, all our modules and sessions are activity-based so that students can explore the various integral aspects of Indian laws through rigorous debates, discussion, games, and other such activities.
What are we doing on Medium?
Just Justice’s blog is in furtherance of one of our missions, i.e. imparting legal literacy. Using Medium, Just Justice will expand its horizon in spreading legal awareness and sensitizing people towards legal education.
We will cover relevant legal topics that primarily concern children, education, social issues, etc. Along with this, a series of blogs will be dedicated to developing a basic legal understanding among the readers.
Furthermore, Just Justice’s blog will provide a platform to writers, who intend to voice their opinion on issues that concern Just Justice.
We believe that no crime should be committed or tolerated due to the lack of knowledge of the law of the land.
Legal education, for so long, has been kept exclusive to law students and to people who can afford to access it exclusively.
Just Justice aims to bridge that gap through free legal education for all.
